The talking stick was a symbolic object of respect used in a group setting to share ideas and stories. Environmental artist and educator Tony Valderrama will lead a workshop at Downs Farm Preserve in Cutchogue where you’ll craft your own talking stick with North Fork driftwood, beads, feathers, and pigment. A Native American display of art and musical instruments will be shared with the class for inspiration. To conclude, students can hold up their talking sticks to share words of appreciation and ways to help Mother Earth!
Registration is required as space and materials are limited. The fee is $20 per person.
