Nature Watercolor Class (Cutchogue)
Explore the colors of nature through the different seasons using the fluid medium of watercolors. Environmental artist and educator Tony Valderrama will teach you brush techniques to capture your impression of the natural world around you. Through this class, you will begin to understand the chemistry of color mixing and blending to bring life to any watercolor creation.
Registration is required as space is limited. The fee is $12 per person, and all materials will be provided.

Leaf Litter Craft Workshop (Cutchogue)
Join the Group for a fall craft event using nature as our art supplies. We will be collecting colorful fallen leaves to create a friendly fox craft, while learning about the plants and animals that visit Downs Farm Preserve in the fall.

Great Pond Cleanup (Southold)
Join the Group, Kenney’s/McCabe Beach Civic Association, and the Town of Southold for a cleanup at Great Pond in Southold. Volunteers will help remove phragmites, an invasive species also known as common reed, to help restore this critical habitat and encourage native plant regrowth.
Long sleeve shirts, long pants, and closed toe shoes are strongly recommended to protect against ticks and phragmites. Please bring your own tools, work gloves, and plenty of water.

Native Plant and Seed Swap (Cutchogue)
Join the Group and ReWild for a native seed and plant swap at Downs Farm Preserve. Exchange native plant species with community members, bring seeds or plants to share, or simply stop by and take some seeds home with you.
Please limit seeds and plants to native plant species. If you are unsure, bring what you have, and we can help you identify. Bring your seed in envelopes or baggies with a label.

Trail Cleanup (Greenport
Join the Group outside for a day of volunteer work at Pipes Cove Preserve. We’ll be removing invasive species, trash, and debris, and planting native plants.
Please wear long sleeves and pants to prevent exposure to poison ivy and ticks. Tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.
The meeting location is the Sills Lane driveway entrance, located directly across from the intersection of Chapel Lane and Route 25.

Building Nests Workshop (Sag Harbor)
Join Group for the East End and John Jermain Memorial Library at Mashashimuet Park in Sag Harbor to learn about bird nests—and make your own!
We will use common nest building tools found in nature, including mud, leaves, and twigs. We will also look for birds around the park and use a spotting scope to safely view the resident osprey.
This program is for ages 4 - 6. Registration is limited and required.

Blueberry Tie Dye Craft (Cutchogue)
Join the Group for a hands-on craft workshop using natural blueberry dye to color tote bags. We’ll discuss sustainable alternatives to synthetic materials and educate on overall sustainability.
This family-friendly event is recommended for children ages 6 to 14.

Scavenger Hunt Extravaganza (Greenport)
Join Group for the East End for Kids Summer East End Seaport Museum! On Tuesdays in July, Groupies will lead various field trips in Greenport to educate kids 7 - 11 years old about the natural environment.
Session 5: Nature Scavenger Hunt at Fifth Street Beach
We’ll start our scavenger hunt at the museum and head to Fifth Street beach to find numerous ecological items, answer various nature-related questions, and complete a handful of simple—and fun—physical challenges.

Rock Olympics Geology Field Trip (Greenport)
Join Group for the East End for Kids Summer East End Seaport Museum! On Tuesdays in July, Groupies will lead various field trips in Greenport to educate kids 7 - 11 years old about the natural environment.
Session 4: Rock Olympics at Inlet Pond County Park
Children will be paired off in teams of two for various geology-based competitions, like magnetite races, skipping stones, building cairns, and more.

Estuary Wade Field Trip
Join Group for the East End for Kids Summer East End Seaport Museum! On Tuesdays in July, Groupies will lead various field trips in Greenport to educate kids 7 - 11 years old about the natural environment.
Session 3: Estuary Wade at Widow’s Hole
We’ll walk to Widow’s Hole to wade in shallow waters to look for various marine species. We’ll use seines and dip nets to catch small fish, crabs, shrimp, mollusks, comb jellies, and more to place in a tank for close observation before returning all of these creatures back to the bay.

Flying Insects Field Trip (Greenport)
Join Group for the East End for Kids Summer East End Seaport Museum! On Tuesdays in July, Groupies will lead various field trips in Greenport to educate kids 7 - 11 years old about the natural environment.
Session 2: Flying Insects at Skipper Horton Park
Students will be introduced to insects and their roles as pollinators. Learn about all sorts of species from butterflies to bees to beetles, and so much more! We will search the park grounds in search of the various insect groups, making close observations of several individuals.

Family Nature Walk at Downs Farm Preserve (Cutchogue)

Seashell Art Workshop (Cutchogue)
Let’s shellebrate our local shellfish! Environmental artist and educator Tony Valderrama will lead this workshop with Group for the East End at Downs Farm Preserve in Cutchogue.
Participants will learn about bivalves and other marine invertebrates, and how they support clean water, while decorating a native seashell. Each member will create their own design that symbolizes their favorite elements of summer.

Sustainable Meadow & Garden Tour (North Fork)
Summer has arrived on the East End! The Group will join Rewild Long Island’s North Fork Chapter and the Southold Peconic Civic Association for tour of sustainable meadows and gardens across the North Fork. Participants are encouraged to discover the biodiverse habitats of native plants and their benefits to pollinators at select public and residential gardens.

Interactive Nature Sculpture Installation (Cutchogue)
Environmental educator and artist Tony Valderrama will lead an interactive nature sculpture installation at Downs Farm Preserve in Cutchogue. Participants are invited to help with the Great Nest of Life Installation Project, building a symbolic nest branch by branch. This project celebrates the return of the eagles, ospreys, and other birds to Long Island. The nest materials can be utilized by local birds for their own nesting as a gift back to nature!

Pipes Cove Preserve Trail Cleanup (Greenport)
Join the Group at Pipes Cove Preserve in Greenport to help advance the Bay to Sound Trails Project. Lend a hand as we remove debris from the preserve and lay woods chips to create better trails. Please bring water and gloves. Dress appropriately - we will be working in areas with possible exposure to poison ivy and ticks.

Beach Grass Planting (Hampton Bays)
Join Group for the East End and Surfrider Foundation Eastern Long Island to plant beach grass at Sand Bar Beach in Hampton Bays.
Beach grass plantings help stabilize dunes, prevent erosion, and support wildlife habitats. Special thanks to Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program for donating the beach grass plugs!
Please bring gloves. The Group will have shovels available, though you are welcome to bring your own. Please note there are no public restrooms available.
