Project Drawdown is an initiative born from the need to raise awareness and understanding of climate solutions. Founded in 2014, Project Drawdown focuses on the point in time in the future, where greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere begin to decline. This point is coined the ‘Drawdown,’ and is especially important in reducing the effects of global warming. More information about the Group for the East End’s partnership with Project Drawdown can be found here

Here on Long Island, action is being taken to support environmental goals for New York State and Project Drawdown. The South Fork Wind Farm is in the process of being developed off the coast of Long Island and is the first offshore wind project in New York. The wind farm would consist of fifteen wind turbines located 19 miles from Block Island, Rhode Island and 35 miles off the coast of Montauk Point, New York. Providing Long Island with 130 megawatts of power and the ability to power 70,000 homes. Additionally, it will help East Hampton meet its goal of 100% renewable energy. This wind farm is an important project for New York in reaching state renewable energy goals and in moving towards the global drawdown point.
